Why Does My IP Address Change?

Your IP address is like a telephone number, it tells the internet where your computer is and how to access it at any given time. Your internet service provider assigns this IP address to your router and the internet then knows how to communicate with your router.

Your Internet Service Provider can change this IP number from time to time. This can happen daily, or when you reboot your router or computer, or when you loose power. The ISP then assigns a different number to your router. This is normal and virtually all ISP's do this. To stop this from happening, you can ask your ISP for a static IP address (will not change) which they will normally charge a fee for.
